Sitartronic & Friends | Indian Music Concert and Dance Performance for Diwali

The program includes classical ragas and original compositions for sitar, sarangi, and tabla, illustrated by kathak dance, interwoven with stories about the traditions of the Indian festival of lights and the triumph of good over evil – Diwali.

Performers:

  • Tomasz Orszulak (sitar) – A musician specializing in string instruments, creator of the solo project Sitartronic. He collaborates with artists from Poland and abroad and is also a composer for films, radio dramas, and theater productions.
  • Bart Pałyga (sarangi) – A cellist, multi-instrumentalist, and improviser. He specializes in playing numerous string and other instruments from around the world, including the Indian sarangi. A pioneer in the use of overtone singing techniques in contemporary, folk, and popular music in Poland.
  • Janek Kubek (tabla) – A percussionist studying traditional playing techniques and repertoire for drums from various cultures. He began learning tabla under Jerzy Pomianowski and continues his studies in Kolkata under Pandit Samir Chatterjee, representing the Farukhabad gharana. He regularly performs with Beltaine, Indialucia, and Viva Flamenco and participates in improvised music and theater projects. He also leads children’s workshops, adult classes, and builds his own instruments.
  • Magdalena Niernsee (kathak dance) – A dancer, choreographer, and dance instructor. She graduated from the prestigious Kathak Kendra classical Indian dance school in New Delhi. She lived in India for over 5 years and still frequently visits. She is a disciple of Guru Pt. Jai Kishan Maharaja and Guru Aditi Mangaldas. In Poland, she creates solo projects and collaborates with various artists. She regularly teaches dance at institutions like the Museum of Asia and the Pacific.
